Community Health Workers
Where You At? Holla Back!
This original poem, written by Renee - one of Oregon's first class of certified Community Health Workers - is in tribute to all other Community Health Workers, especially those who went through the training program of the Urban League of Portland, called the "We Are Health Movement." The 80-hour-plus certification curriculum was developed in partnership with the Multnomah County Community Capacitation Center to specifically address the health disparities in the African & African American communities.
CHWs make important contributions to preventing disease and promoting health, by increasing access to care, reducing health care costs, diversifying our workforce, and decreasing health inequities. CHWs also advocate for policies that improve individual, community and population health.
